Las Vegas Color Graphics, who executed the printing, entered the brochure in the Gold Ink Awards, the printing industry’s most prestigious competition. It’s open to creators and producers of printed materials, and encompasses commercial printing, magazines, books, catalogs, digital printing and packaging.

The stunning coffee table brochure was created to showcase Las Vegas-based JD Stairs and won the Gold Award in the Commercial Printing Sheetfed category. Designed by Art Director Joslynn Hupe and written by Vice President Ann Sprague, the brochure features an embossed metallic paper cover bound by two rivets and a stair-step design that subliminally takes the viewers on a journey up a staircase.
“JD Stairs has built their reputation on quality. The challenge was to find a way to visually tell the story,” said Joslynn. “We wanted to create the ‘wow factor,’ so I came up with a stair-step idea where individual tabs create the movement. Since the JD Stairs team are Metal+Wood Artisans, I chose paper that reflects those two materials.”
“When we were planning the brochure, there were so many amazing photos and tales to tell,” Ann added. “And, because JD Stairs creates much more than stairs, we had to express that clearly so potential clients would understand that great diversity. Three case studies focus on individual homes where JD Stairs played a pivotal role in the architectural focal points. This is followed by the stepped sections featuring stairs and rails, doors, gates and fencing, cladding, gabion walls, structural steel and finishing touches.”
